Pea-Pod Personal Mass Transit

Pea-Pod Personal Mass Transit (PMT)

The Pea-Pod Personal Mass Transit System is a shared use, single-rider cabin transportation system that runs along elevated monorail guideways and subterranean tunnels.

While the Pea-Pod cabin is not a conveyance device in itself, it has an electric conveyance system attached to the top of the pod chassis.

The Pea-Pod transit model addresses the gaps created as cities reclaim streets for pedestrian traffic and suburbs turn into full-scale planned communities covering acres of land; including amenities designed to keep residents close to home.

Moving people from point-to-point in a seamless fashion will be one way of addressing our congested sidewalks and roadways.

An efficient and flexible system based around modular sections for scalability would be essential.  Not just for new planned communities or campuses, but also for aging city centers where space is at a premium.

Pea-Pod Transit would be such a system; modular, on-demand and point-to-point.  Since the heart of Personal Mass Transit (PMT) is bringing the transit schedule and seat to the rider, this first step in automated transit would suit short-haul riders.

The Pea-Pod Personal transporter is the most “localized” transit pod of the Personal Mass Transit system.  Design for building to building transit in large complexes or urban environments where convenience and saving time are at a premium.

Off-line loading/unloading stations allow passengers in a hurry to simply step into a transporter and be on their way while those requiring more time are able to load and unload as needed.

Stations can be placed in shopping malls, business parks or University campuses where walking has become inconvenient due to distance or weather conditions.

Small, ultra light-weight and “grade-separated” the Pea-Pod transporter is an on-demand transit cabin where privacy and convenience are the new norm.

A fully populated Pea-Pod transit system consists of many guide-ways that move riders from one loading station to another.

Since the system is point-to-point, each rider has their own express route to their destination.  Unlike buses or similar mass transit systems, the Pea-Pod system will not need to stop at every station or wait at traffic lights.

Lightweight transit guideways are designed to attach to elevated supports or tunnel sides when underground.

The need to move people without building new roads or elevated freeways will become paramount as urban centers continue to grow.

Since space will continue to be at a premium, the Pea-Pod is flexible enough to go anywhere, integrate with other systems and do it at a fraction of the cost of traditional rail-based transit.
